Our self-titled album was a long time in the making, but not by design. Following Quiet Collision’s (re-)release in 2002, we began a recording relationship with famed engineer Nick Blagona in late Summer 2003. Sadly, our experience with Nick didn’t work out, and we shelved the recordings.
We regrouped and decided to create our own recording space in our rehearsal hall. The freedom of being able to record our own music on our own schedule and terms led to a number of recordings of past songs. This culminated in the limited release album “XV” in 2005.
Following “XV”, was a collection of songs that were dark, mostly roots-tinged songs that resurrected some of the work we’d done with Nick, and introduced some new instrumentation and arrangements. We took 3 years to finish the recording – partly due to timing, partly due to our commitment to getting things “just right.” We found a home for the album on SunnyLane Records (now defunct), who distributed the album through Maple Music (also now defunct).
The opening track, “More Than I Deserve” begins with a simple harmonica and acoustic guitar, and Craig’s bare vocal, immediately yielding to the full band unleashing a classic rock opening. This energy persists through the album, pausing briefly for The Ballad of Charles Lawrence Hannah, and fan favourite, Winter Lightning.
The album artwork was inspired by the songs, with original ink and acrylic paintings created for the trifold CD packaging.
